Elvis' June-tour in 1972 began with 4 concerts in Madison Square Garden, New York City. During the press conference on the 9th of June Elvis appeared in very good shape both mentally and physically, and as far healthier than during the April-tour two months earlier. Elvis knew that the blasé New York audience was far more demanding than he was accustomed to, and he had made an effort to look his best. During the press conference Elvis was seemingly relaxed, and by using his natural charisma, he charmed both journalists and the audience completely. A portion of this press conference is included in the film Elvis On Tour. It was originally set up three shows in New York's showroom, but a huge demand for tickets led to that a fourth show was added. All the shows were sold out, and with an audience of 20,000 per show, it meant that Elvis during these three days in June performed for 80,000 people in New York. Concert reviews were ecstatic, and it was obvious that Elvis "came, saw and conquered" the New York audiences. Celebrities like John Lennon, George Harrison, David Bowie, Art Garfunkel and Bob Dylan attended the concerts.

During these four show Elvis used the following jumpsuits; Adonis Suit (Evening Show June 9), Light Blue Wheat Suit/ Light Blue Grass Suit (Afternoon Show June 10), Eyelet Suit/ Porthole Suit (Evening Show June 10 and Afternoon Show June 11).

RCA recorded both the afternoon show and the evening show June 10th. The evening show was released on the record Elvis: As Recorded Live at Madison Square Garden just a few days after the actual concert. Later, RCA also released the afternoon show on the release An Afternoon In The Garden (1997). In the autumn of 2012 BMG/ Sony released Prince From Another Planet, which contains both shows.

"I missed the closeness of an audience, of a live audience. So just as soon as I got out of the movie contracts, I started two do live concerts again" (Elvis during the press conference the 9th of June, 1972)

Senere har RCA også gitt ut ettermiddagsshowet på utgivelsen An Afternoon In The Garden (1997). Høsten 2012 kom den offisielle platen Prince From Another Planet, som inneholder begge showene samlet.
